Most people that have a blushing problem do not consider it to be a phobia initially. They start off aware that they blush easily and, whilst it troubles them, it does not affect their lives in any important way. They may just put it down to their health or a passing phase and so can get on with their lives as usual. However, when the blushing problem does not seem to pass, especially if it seems to get worse, it can become a formidable fear that makes your life hell for some time. The most annoying thing may actually be that other people cannot see it. Like any other phobia, Erythrophobia starts off harmlessly enough but becomes worse over time. It distinctly occurs in two stages - the initial stage of blushing easily every now and again, and the excessive blushing that comes as your self-consciousness increases. Excessive blushing can hurt you physically as well as mentally. Things can get so bad that you might spend all your time worrying about it. In fact, the more you worry, the more you will blush. If you blush easily, it may occur only a few times a week but Erythrophobia can occur a few times a day. Actually, blushing easily may just be slight blushing but excessive blushing is often extreme and will mentally burn you up. This may seem very worrying and can cause some people to go into a blind panic, but help is at hand. You can actually learn to control your blushing over a period of time. You can resist it, so to speak, and also decrease the severity of your blushing as well. As you begin to manage the problem it becomes easier as time passes. However, actually starting to deal with the problem is the most difficult part for most people. If you find any disappointment with your progress, you may become weighed down by self-pity and will begin to talk yourself out of it. What makes it worse is that very few people understand the phobia, unless they suffer from it themselves of course. If you do persevere and follow through though, you will soon find that it becomes easier as you go along and the progress you make will persuade you to continue with your self-help. All you need is a small ray of hope and you will soon find that it becomes much easier to cope with your blushing problem. It can even help you to begin living a normal life again.
