Tips That Help Control Acid Reflux problem

Acid reflux problem, often called GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux problem), takes place when acid and other materialsfood in the stomach "flow back" into the esophagus, creating a agonying, burning sensation and sometimes result in permanent destruction to the wall of the esophagus as well. Weight Loss

Stop Smoking And Drinking

Nicotine is thought to harm the esophageal sphincter. The esophageal sphincter is a tough rim of muscle at the lower part of the esophagus. When this muscle is attacked, it allows acid from the tummy to back up into the lower portion of the esophagus. Alcohol may also weaken the esophageal sphincter. It can also trigger the stomach to generate excessive acid.

Staying Upright For At Least 45 Minutes After A Meal

Immediately after a meal, your stomach fills with acid as it works to process the foods you have eaten. If you lie down during this time, the acid is likely to flow into your esophagus. If you sit or stand upright, however, gravity will help keep the acid in the stomach where it belongs.

Eat Several Small Meals Instead Of Three Big Meals

The more food consumed, the more acid is needed to help digest it. Eating frequent small meals is much easier on your digestive system, and is hence less likely to develop acid reflux problem.

Avoidance Of Clothing That Is Tight Around Your Waist

Tight clothing forces food and acid up against the esophageal sphincter. If the sphincter is not working properly, it will allow the materials in the stomach to flow backback up into the esophagus with uncomfortable consequences.

Say No To Fast Foods

Most fast foods are high in fat. Fatty foods trigger the stomach to generate more acid, which can lead to increased symptoms of acid reflux problem.

Taking Medications As Prescribed

If your doctor has given you medication for your acid reflux problem, take it exactly as prescribed. Many types of medication are to be taken at least on a daily basis, whether you are having signs or not. Stopping the medication suddenly is likely to lead to a sharp increase in signs. Discuss with your doctor before you stop any medication for acid reflux problem.
