By: Laura Durso

It is not uncommon to hear that there are only a few who would prefer to make Minnesota their home. The reasons are obvious. Being located in the northern edge of continental United States brings upon extreme winter weather making settling down in Minnesota rather difficult. It is for this very reason that despite being geographically large, the state does not rank even in the top twenty as far as population is concerned.

While people may not necessarily to choose to live year around in Minnesota and call it home, there are definitely a lot of people who love to visit the pristine landscape known as Minnesota in the warmer months of the year. Situated along the shores of Lake Superior, Minnesota enjoys cool summer breezes in the summer months making it a perfect getaway spot for vacationers.

But the people who come to visit the natural splendor that is Minnesota do not do so for theme parks or high class gambling venues. Persons choosing to spend their free time in Minnesota do so because they seek to escape the trials, stresses, and madness of the places that they live. For these people, the deep forests and pristine lakes offer a chance to escape back into a simpler time when a person had time to properly gather their thoughts.

People who truly enjoy vacationing in Minnesota are normally those that love the outdoors. The state is a heaven for activities such as boating, biking, hiking, and many other such activities.

One of the most popular attractions in Minnesota is The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This area is rich in outdoor adventure opportunities. A thousand pristine lakes abound this area of wilderness. Some of these crystal clear lakes may even allow opportunities for water skiing and not just swimming, fishing and boating. To preserve the natural beauty of the lakes, motorized boats may not be allowed in certain lakes.

The lakes of Minnesota attract canoe enthusiasts from across the world. It’s quite a challenge and an adventure to navigate the lake bodies in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. There are also many campgrounds, lodges and resorts to cater to those not interested in canoeing but merely wanting to get away from the stressful city life.

Minnesota is home to a wide range of wildlife which is also another big draw for visitors. It is completely possible to see moose, bears, wolves, deer, eagles, and even those crazy loons during your stay in Minnesota. If you do not happen to see what you are looking for in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, there are more isolated and remote regions where such wildlife flourishes.

However, if you are looking for ‘glitz and glamour’, then Minnesota is not the place for you. Its residents are true lovers of Nature and prefer to enjoy the splendor of the natural world. They have preserved the beauty of their state in its natural form. That is why we can visit this natural splendor and bring back memories that will last a lifetime.
