By: Pedro Crandosi

The country of Chile is filled with adventure and amazing attractions that will leave you breathless. This country, found on the west coast of South America, is wild and rugged and yet at the same time has a soft elegance that makes it a target for tourists everywhere.

Chile's natural wonders are breathtaking. Whether you are interested in exploring craggy mountains, deserted beaches, overgrown forests, or spouting geysers, you'll never be disappointed by the many sites Chile has to offer. If you are a little less adventurous, the city of Santiago, with its population of five million, is a thriving urban city.

The culture that can be found in Chile may amaze you, since many people think of Chile as one of the lesser known countries of South America. However, Chile has a strong European background, and this influence of Europe is what gives it a strong appeal to tourists from the west. There is a large Parisian feel to some parts of Santiago due to the educating of important Chileans for some many centuries. This French influence can be strongly seen in the art, architecture, and music of many parts of the country.

Chileans have great enthusiasm for arts and literature. Twice the Nobel price for literature has been won by Chileans through Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda. Chileans also love music a lot. After the military coup in 1973, music has been the only medium of expression of feelings for the Chileans.

On your visit to Chile, don't just limit yourself to spending time in Santiago. Besides Santiago, there are other cities that are lovely and thriving. Don't forget to check out the nearby islands. One such island, Chiloe, is only thirty-one miles wide and 112 miles long, but is a beacon of incredible beauty. You can reach Chiloe via a ferry from the mainland. The island is home to several small villages and towns. The inhabitants of these villages build their homes on stilts due to the rain that falls in this area. Don't forget to bring your camera. You'll want pictures to remember the breathtaking site of volcanoes on the mainland that can be seen from this island paradise.

Another must see if you're looking for adventure in Chile is the Torres del Paine National Park. This park can be found in southern Chile and is known as a biosphere park. You'll be able to view waterfalls and glaciers, and wander through dense and mysterious forests.

After a busy day sightseeing or looking for adventure you'll want to sit back and enjoy the cuisine of Chile, which includes a huge selection of seafood, beef, fruits, and vegetables. Popular snacks, which can be found on all corners of the streets in Santiago, are "empanadas". Empanadas are turnovers that are filled with a selection of fillings. Another snack is called "humitas", which are known to westerners as corn tamales.

Bread is a central part of the Chileans cuisine, so you will you'll find a varied selection wherever you go. Potato bread is a particular favorite. One of most popular meals among Chileans is "lomo a lo pobre". Lomo a lo pobre is made by placing two fried eggs on top of a large piece of beef and serving with chips. Tourist should definitely give lomo a lo pobre a try.

A trip to Chile will be filled with fun and excitement, combined with amazing sightseeing in one of the most amazing parts of the world.
